Chandannagar Police Commissionerate has started its functioning from 30.06.2017. Important Roads i.e. NH-2 - 08 KMs, Delhi road (SH)-26 KMs, GT Road (SH)-.37 KMs run through the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate area. Huge vehicular traffic enters Chandannagar Police Commissionerate area via Maitypara under Dankuni PS throughout the day from North 24 Parganas district and Kolkata via Nivedita Setu, Vivekananda bridge and from Howrah and PurbaMedinipur districts via Bombay road.

The traffic unit is supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police(Traffic), under guidance of CP Chandannagar. At present, the traffic unit is manned by one ACP, 02 Traffic Inspectors, 07 ASIs and others who are fully dedicated to maintain the entire traffic system of Chandannagar Police Commissionerate.

The Chandannagar Police Commissionerate has taken the initiative to ensure better traffic movement and is also trying to reduce road traffic accidents and keep the roads free of congestion in the Commissionerate area by bringing the entire area under coverage of CC TV for improvement in traffic management.

We are committed to fulfill the high expectations of the residents of Commissionerate area by the way of renovation of old signal system and installation of new modern signal system, installation of audio system at each signal point with awareness campaigning, painting and renovation of signal point/control room. Recently four TG's have come under CCTV coverage. Setting-up Watch Tower on NH-2 for monitoring of traffic is already complete.


Some other major works of traffic unit are as follows :--


Setting-up RLVD & ANPR Camera at Traffic Signal Point to manage the entire situation.

Installation of solar blinker lights at vulnerable points on GT Road, Delhi Road and NH Road.

Cautionary signage including speed limit signage displayed on NH Road/Delhi Road.

Setting up of Guard Rails having reflective tapes on GT Road, Delhi Road and NH Road to reduce speed of vehicles.

Reorganization of traffic management system at Dankuni Toll to reduce congestion at night.

Suspension of driving license of traffic offenders on regular basis.

Count down digital timing system in each signal point has been set-up.

Increased deployment of traffic personnel at important crossings on GT Road and NH Road including other traffic points.

Providing fluorescent jackets and helmets supplied to all Traffic Personnel who perform traffic duty on road.

Arranging traffic training for CVs/Constables on regular basis.

Illumination at important crossings and intersections.

Regular meeting with NH authorities, Toll officials, Municipality to develop road and traffic management.
